- All pesticides must first be registered with the Pesticides Board before they are imported, manufactured, sold and use in Malaysia
- All registered pesticide products are screened for carcinogeneticity (no cancer), mutagenicity (no mutation), teratogenicity (no malformation of fetus), etc.
- All the toxicology, residue and environment fate studies for each and every pesticide product usually takes more than 10 years
- More than 50’000 chemical compounds would have been discarded before finally one is good enough for submission to the authorities for registration
- All research efforts for pesticide products cost more than RM700 million to put into the market
- If no pesticide is used in agriculture, crop production could suffer losses up to 50% due to pest problems such as insect and fungi damages, diseases and weeds

Pesticide products are evaluated by an independent body analyzing its risks and benefits - biological efficacy
- suitability for local market needs
- use recommendations
- limitation of risks to human health and the environment
- legality of use, which is proven with a registration or a refusal of the registration
Registration, in other words, is an independent benefit/risk analysis for the farmer and for the consumer. Only pesticides registered by the Pesticides Board can be sold and marketed legally in Malaysia.
"All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous." Paracelsus, 1493-1541 Philippus Theophrastus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim (Paracelsus) |
