The Malaysian CropLife & Public Health Association is happy to declare the success of organized the event on "Insecticide Resistance Management Seminar & Workshop" which is sponsored by Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC), South East Asia chapter. This event has been held on 7 December 2009 at Holiday Villa Subang. Subang Jaya. There is about 45 participants attended this seminar and workshop.

Insecticide resistance is not new to many of us in the crop protection industry and research communities in Malaysia. A classic example is diamondback moth or Plutella xylostella that has the capability to develop resistance to almost all modes of action of insecticides in the market including the latest groups. The crop protection industry views resistance as an extremely serious threat and it is an issue that needs a proactive approach. Effective insecticide resistance management is essential and the industry-wide Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) is dedicated in making this a reality.

The theme of this event is "Bringing Science and Technology to Farmers in Insecticide Resistance Management". The first presentation was conducted by Mr Samsudin Amit, Chairman of IRAC South East Asia to introduce IRAC SEA and sharing information with the participants on IRAC International initiatives in insecticide resistance management. The second presenter is Mr Ooi Kok Eng to talk about the insecticide resistance mechanisms and resistance management strategies. Mr Ooi Kok Eng is also one of the organizing commitee member for this seminar and workshop. The following paper was presented by Dr Sivapragasam A from MARDI to share with the participants about experiences in insecticide resistance management in Malaysia. Prof Dzolkhifli Omar from University Putra Malaysia also present a topic on "New Technologies and Approaches for Insecticide Resistance Management"
